What this rate is
The European Central Bank publishes euro foreign exchange reference rates once per working day, at around 16:00 Central European time, based on a daily concertation between a panel of banks. The rate above applies to the business day named in valid_for and can be reproduced by anyone: it is on the ECB’s own site, in its daily XML feed, and in every serious financial record. It is an official daily reference — not a live trading quote, and it does not move intraday.
That is exactly what you want on an invoice, in a ledger, or in anything an auditor might replay later. If you need the longer version of that argument, we wrote a whole guide on which exchange rate to put on an invoice.
The last three months
Over the last 90 business days the official rate moved between 1.1699 (on 2026-08-21) and 1.1225 — today’s figure is the low of that stretch. From late August to now the euro lost about 3.8% against the dollar: 1.1415 on 2026-07-06, 1.1225 on 2026-10-02.

Getting this rate from code
GlobalCurrencyLayer is building an API that serves exactly these figures — the official rate with its source and publication time attached — and it is not live yet. What the call and the response will look like, with today’s real numbers in it:
